Who am I ?

I am a 40 year old mother of two and I work FT as an MRI Technologist. I am also a WNBF Pro Figure Competitor and Fitness Model.

Why did I create this website?

I hope to possibly inspire others and show that it is never too late to follow your dreams.

How did I get started as a Figure Competitor?

To be quite honest “Accidentally” Yes, I sort of accidentally fell into competing. In September of 2004 my youngest daughter was entering preschool and I decided to join a local gym to get in shape

After a few months of working out with no direction and admiring the photos of the fine physiques of past and current gym competitors hanging on the walls….I decided it was time to hire a Personal Trainer.

In January of 2005 I finally made an appointment with a personal trainer. He asked me what my goals were and I jokingly said that "I would like to look like the picture hanging on the wall" (pointing to a gym member who competes).  He said “If you expect to look like her, then I will expect you to compete as well”. Never in a million years did I think I could get in that type of shape, so I said to him…   “If you get me in that type of shape, I'll enter a competition”.

After just a few weeks of training,  I was told by my personal trainer that I should enter the November 2005 Monster Mash as a novice bodybuilder”. So the 10 month journey began and in February of 2005 I started to see changes in my body and at that point I began to realize that maybe I COULD enter a competition. At this time I realized I needed to research competing as much as possible. During this research I accidentally came across an article on “Figure Competitors”. I had never heard of a figure competitor before but I immediately knew that this was for me!!!!

So…4 months later I entered my first show and took home 4th place. Six months after that (and 2 more 4th places) I won my first show and my WNBF Pro card!!!.

Miscellaneous

Why “Melissa4Figure – It’s kind of an inside joke. After my 3rd show Craig asked if I was collecting "4th" Place trophies because I had placed "4th" in every show up to that point! When I registered for the INBF Monster Mash I was assigned "#44", so the number “4” just happens to follow me around….Plus melissakelley.com was already taken
